How to Choose Sunglasses Online
The most dependable way to choose sunglasses online is to compare the measurements with a pair that already fits you. Shape and colour are personal; bridge, frame width and temple length determine whether the frame stays comfortable.
Step 1
Read the Cosmoshop frame size
Cosmoshop displays eyewear dimensions in the format 54.20/140. All three numbers are measured in millimetres.

20 — bridge width
The distance between the lenses. It influences where the frame sits on your nose and whether it slides or pinches.
140 — temple length
The length of each arm from the hinge to the end. It affects how securely the arms curve behind your ears.
Closest-size method
Start with a current pair that fits. A lens width within roughly 2 mm, bridge width within 1–2 mm and temple length within about 5 mm can be a useful comparison, but total frame width, hinge design and frame shape can still change the fit.
Step 2
Check five signs of a good fit
Frame width
The outer edges should broadly follow the width of your face. Arms that bow sharply outward usually indicate a frame that is too narrow.
Bridge
The frame should sit securely without pinching or leaving most of its weight on one small point. Adjustable nose pads offer more fitting flexibility.
Eyes and lenses
Your eyes should sit reasonably close to the centre of the lenses rather than near an extreme inner or outer edge.
Cheek clearance
The lower rim should not press into your cheeks or lift significantly when you smile.
Temple arms
The arms should feel secure without squeezing your head. The curved ends should sit comfortably behind your ears.
Eyelash clearance
Your lashes should not brush the lenses during normal blinking. Nose pads or a different bridge design may provide more space.
Fixed bridge or adjustable nose pads?
Fixed acetate or plastic bridges create a clean look but need a naturally compatible nose fit. Adjustable nose pads allow an optician to change the height, angle and pressure points more easily.
Step 3
Use face shape as a styling guide, not a rule
Fit and personal preference matter more than a face-shape label. These suggestions are simply useful starting points.
Round face
Angular, rectangular or browline frames can add definition and contrast with softer curves.
Square face
Round, oval or softly curved frames can balance a stronger jawline and angular features.
Oval face
Most shapes can work. Use frame width and proportion to choose between subtle and statement styles.
Heart-shaped face
Aviator, oval and lighter lower-rim styles can balance a broader forehead and narrower chin.
Coverage changes the look.
Oversized frames give more coverage and a stronger fashion statement. Smaller lenses are lighter and more discreet. Compare the listed lens height and total frame dimensions where available.
Step 4
Choose lens features for where you will wear them
UV protection
Darkness alone does not prove UV protection. Check that the product specification explicitly states its UV protection standard or rating.
Polarised lenses
Reduce reflected glare from roads, water and other flat surfaces. They are useful for driving and outdoor use, although some screens may appear darker at certain angles.
Gradient lenses
Darker at the top and lighter below. They can be practical for city use and reading dashboards, but may not reduce glare as uniformly as a solid tint.

Common sunglasses questions
Does the same 54.20/140 size always fit the same?
No. It is an excellent comparison point, but frame shape, total width, hinge position, lens height and bridge design can make two frames with the same printed size fit differently.
Are polarised lenses the same as UV-protective lenses?
No. Polarisation reduces reflected glare; UV protection filters ultraviolet radiation. A lens can have one feature without the other, so check the product specification.
Should sunglasses cover my eyebrows?
There is no single rule. The frame should sit securely and proportionally without touching your cheeks or obstructing your vision. Brow coverage is mainly a style choice.
