From a university idea to a growing New Zealand retailer

Cosmoshop NZ began with a shared interest in watches, jewellery and online retail. Today, we work with New Zealand and Australian distributors to make genuine branded watches and accessories more accessible, without the overheads of a traditional storefront.

Where it started

Built from a shared passion and practical retail experience

Co-founders Henry and James met at university and quickly discovered a shared interest in watches and jewellery. While working as web designers for a local jewellery store, they gained first-hand experience with products, online merchandising and the traditional retail model.

They eventually branched out and created Cosmoshop NZ, initially selling overstock from the local jeweller. What began as a small project grew into a dedicated online retailer with distributor relationships, authorised-dealer appointments and local pickup options.

Our goal remains straightforward: offer genuine products, clear local support and strong value for customers across New Zealand.

From a university side project to a growing Auckland-based retail business.

2022

The idea begins

Co-founders Henry and James met at university through their shared passion for watches and jewellery. Both worked as web designers for a local jewellery store before branching out and starting Cosmoshop NZ, initially selling mainly overstock from the local jeweller.

2023

Cosmoshop Partnership is formed

We formed Cosmoshop Partnership, obtained a New Zealand Business Number and began working with New Zealand distributors for G-SHOCK, Casio and other brands. We also launched cosmoshop.co.nz and our Trade Me store, serving around 200 customers by this stage.

2024

Our range expands

We expanded our product offering and became official stockists of Boccia watches, Rochet Jewellery and Disney Jewellery, giving our customers a wider range of watches, jewellery and gifts to choose from.

2025

Our first Auckland office

We leased our first office in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter and introduced express pickup for local customers. More than 3,000 watches and accessories had been sold across New Zealand. We also became authorised dealers of Timex and Furla and obtained retail rights for major eyewear brands including Calvin Klein, Lacoste, DKNY and more.

2026

Cosmoshop (Tapui) Limited

Cosmoshop Partnership was deregistered and Cosmoshop (Tapui) Limited was formed. Johnathan joined the company, we became GST registered and established our second showroom in Henderson, West Auckland. We became authorised dealers of Citizen, Bulova and Ryze smartwatches, meeting the standards required by these brands. Cosmoshop now sells more than 100 items per month while helping customers collectively save hundreds of thousands of dollars compared with recommended retail prices each year.

We purchase selected products in volume and source overstock and end-of-line opportunities where available, allowing us to pass stronger pricing on to customers.

Local support

Our Auckland team helps with product questions, order support, pickups, adjustments, returns and warranty enquiries before and after your purchase.
