The lug-to-lug measurement is especially useful because it shows how much space the watch takes up vertically across your wrist. Ideally, the lugs should generally remain within the width of your wrist rather than extending significantly beyond it.

The easiest way to choose your next watch size

If you already own a watch that fits comfortably, use it as your reference.

Measure or check its:

Case diameter
The width of the watch case, normally measured without including the crown.

Lug-to-lug length
The distance from the end of the upper lugs to the end of the lower lugs.

Case thickness
A thicker watch may feel considerably larger even when the diameter is similar.

You can then compare those measurements with the specifications of the watch you are considering.

This is often more reliable than choosing a watch based only on your wrist circumference.
